Here’s a statement I think most people will agree with- “volunteering makes a difference”. But here’s something I don’t think most people think about - volunteering with a community-based agency like Tu Casa, Inc. makes a difference to both our agency and in our volunteers’ lives.
The benefits of a volunteer to Tu Casa, Inc. are numerous- our volunteers help us with fundraising, creating a safe & supportive environment for survivors, and even by providing direct services (after receiving appropriate training) to clients that aid in recovery and focus on empowerment. But research shows that individuals who volunteer their time and skills to their community also experience significant levels of personal growth and satisfaction, as volunteering fosters a sense of purpose & belonging as they work toward a common goal for the greater good.
Individuals who volunteer report both improved physical and mental health, as volunteering leads to an active lifestyle and helps create a sense of community amongst like-minded people, reducing feelings of stress, anxiety, and loneliness. Individuals who volunteer also often gain a sense of purpose, which may boost self-esteem and confidence, as one works to contribute to community well-being through their volunteer opportunities. Volunteers typically feel a sense of civic responsibility and engagement aimed at promoting social justice and shared values that prioritize the safety and health of communities.
In the face of challenges like domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse the need for compassionate and dedicated volunteers has never been greater. By choosing to volunteer with Tu Casa, Inc., you’re not just donating your time — you’re investing in the future of your community, empowering your neighbors in need of empathy & support, and helping survivors know there is a network of support around them.
Tu Casa, Inc. thrives because of our volunteers, and we’re so grateful for them. To learn more about volunteer opportunities with Tu Casa, Inc., check out our website at www.slvtucasa.net or call (719) 589-2465 and ask to speak with our Volunteer Coordinator, Shelly Martinez.
